Shrove Tuesday will fall on the day before Ash Wednesday 2015, which begins Lent. As the name suggests, the purpose is to fatten up for the coming Lent which lasts for 40 days, i.e. until Easter. Though the tradition is found throughout the Christian world, it is celebrated a little different in different countries.
The form of the ceremony has also changed over time. The purpose of fasting is to abstain from something they think they need the scale down of its use a little bit and instead give way to the spiritual dimension and invite a greater focus on God. Valentine Day 2015 will fall on a Saturday and as ever it shall be on the 14th of February. It is a day associated with love and romance. It is popular and it’s marked worldwide to celebrate love. This day has led to the creation of a flooding gift market with buyers thronging to get something wonderful for their loved ones either spouses or family. Popular gifts include cards, red flowers, cake, chocolates, candy and many other romantic and sensual paraphernalia. Valentine Day gets its roots from the ancient Italian societies.

St. Valentine was a cleric, a Christian priest who became a legend after his execution one thousand years ago. He used to help lovers get married in Roman Emperor Claudius’s reign. St. Valentine acted against the Emperor’s will by secretly inviting lovers who were soldiers and get them to their lovers married at his place. It was more bent towards lovers and romantic love in the beginning but with time it has become a day for showing of love and appreciating close ones. It is quite the norm on this day to see people clad in red outfits and love hearts, roses and cupid images are evident everywhere. Continue reading
